A HOMEOWNER has complained after receiving hundreds of dollars in parking fines right outside his home. He had nowhere else to park.

A Toronto man said he received eight parking tickets while his driveway was repaved.

The driveway construction forced the homeowner to park all three family vehicles on the street.

However, he found out the parking was against city rules.

"There were no signs telling us we couldn't do that," the driver, Desmond Courtney, told Toronto-based CTV in 2022.

"The person who gave us the ticket, they had no form of consideration when they saw our driveway was being repaired."

The city told the publication that all drivers in Courtney's neighborhood must purchase permits before using street parking for more than three hours.

"Residents and visitors can purchase temporary daily or weekly parking permits online anytime," a spokesperson for the city said at the time.

"Vehicles that have a valid temporary parking permit will not receive an infraction notice if they exceed the three-hour limit."

Courtney said he attempted to fight the fines for months.

Ultimately, he said he had to pay nearly $300 in parking fees.

"We tried to fight it and tell them our driveway was being repaired, but they just replied that we have to pay for the tickets," he said.

"It's kind of ridiculous."

Several other drivers also complained about strict road law enforcement in the area.

Another driver, Felicia Wang, said she recieved a yellow notice on her car warning it would be towed.

The vehicle was in Wang's driveway.

"We parked three cars there when my brother used to live there," she said.

The extra car forced Wang to park away from the driveway's center.

At the time, Toronto regulated that cars must park in front of a home's driveway.

City officials said drivers could purchase a special license to extend their driveways.

The licenses cost $200 annually.

"It's never been an issue," Wang said after moving her car.
