Mowbray, 60, was appointed to the position on January eight after the membership sacked Wayne Rooney.

A Blues statement stated: "Birmingham City can affirm that manager, Tony Mowbray, requires medical remedy which suggests he shall be briefly stepping away from the on-site administration of the club for a period of approximately six to eight weeks."

Mowbray stated the choice came after a well being assessment and thanked the membership for his or her help in this time.

He stated: "Following my current LMA Well being Assessment I have acquired a medical analysis that may require me to receive remedy.

Assistant manager Mark Venus will take charge in Mowbray's absence.

Mowbray previously managed Sunderland but was dismissed by the Black Cats in December.
