A controversial ruling nearly cost Team GB their first gold medal of the Paris Olympics, but the penalty was put behind them to finish top of the podium. Great Britain's eventing team secured gold after the showjumping final on Monday having held a slender lead over second-place nation France. It followed impressive performances in both the dressage and cross country events in Paris. The margin could have been greater heading into the final discipline, with Team GB, represented by world No 1 Ros Canter, Tom McEwen and Laura Collett, having led the way on 82.
